As our region and world begin to see the drastic consequences of greenhouse gas pollution and global climate change, we know that cities play a critical role in addressing this urgent issue. In Tacoma, thanks to our clean, renewable hydropower, we know our most effective strategies include transforming our transportation infrastructure and methods by investing in more convenient and frequent transit, pedestrian and bike infrastructure and electric vehicle infrastructure.
As our region grows, it is important to ensure that our renewable energy portfolio diversifies and continues to be able to keep up with demand. That’s why I am so excited about Tacoma’s first Community Solar Project. Tacomans can buy credits ($100/credit) for this project that will be built on Tacoma Power Facilities off of Union Avenue. In exchange, you will make a nice return over 5 years on your investment and participate in ensuring that we build solar projects locally to continue to diversify our energy portfolio in our City.
