It’s Time to Review the Proposed 2015-2016 Budget

The City Manager has transmitted his proposed 2015-2016 Budget to the Council. Now, it’s our job to review it, ask questions, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure it meets the policy goals of the Council. There is a lot to like in the proposed budget, and I believe the City Manager did a very good job of listening to the priorities of the public and Council that have been identified over the past year.
Some highlights that have me quite pleased include:

  • The budget is balanced while protecting core services and enhancing city services in many areas
  • The number of police officers, detectives, firefighters, medical personnel and library hours will remain the same as the previous budget
  • Permanent Pothole Repair Crew
  • Makes investments in key corridors and business districts to make them more walkable and vibrant
  • Funds set aside to leverage state and federal grants for street and bridge replacements and other much-needed street repair funds city-wide
  • Continues Graffiti Removal Program
  • Meets our goal of a 15% reserve to put the City on strong, stable financial footing

There is a lot of detail in the budget highlighting the diverse core services the city funds, including public safety, streets and sidewalks, human services, the arts, libraries and other economic development initiatives. After you are able to read and learn more, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or suggestions you have. Your input will help me represent you better at City Hall!
